”Literacy is not only a fundamental human right, it is the foundation of a just, equitable, and prosperous society.

The Centre for Dyslexia is a new centre of excellence that was launched in 2024. The initiative to establish the Centre for Dyslexia was started by Fraser Academy, a leading educational institution founded in 1982 to meet a vital need: ensuring students with dyslexia receive the support and education they deserve. Grounded in 40+ years of evidence-based practices and advancing education for people with dyslexia, the Centre builds on this legacy to expand impact and access and be a vital community hub.

Through a comprehensive approach, the Centre provides innovative programs for learners and research-based training for educators.

Since 2018-19, Fraser Academy’s outreach and training programs (which will become part of the Centre once it is fully operational) have supported more than 4,000 students, families, and educators. Its in-person and virtual training has already equipped over 1,600 educators from across Canada and more than ten other countries with the knowledge, skills and tools to better serve dyslexic learners.

The Centre for Dyslexia has acquired a permanent home at 2665 Renfrew Street in Vancouver. We are currently targeted to move in September, 2027.

“Establishing a first-of-its-kind Centre for Dyslexia in BC is a monumental step forward for British Columbians. By working closely with community partners and experts in the field, the Centre will be a vital resource for children with dyslexia and their families.”

LINDA SIEGELPhD, Professor Emerita, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia

“The Centre for Dyslexia is an important initiative in Vancouver, addressing a critical need for children and families in our city, and across the province.”

KEN SIMMayor, City of Vancouver

“We need hubs of expertise. We need places that are grounded in the research, connected to what’s happening in schools, and are translating knowledge into action. And that’s what excites me about the model being used by the Centre for Dyslexia.”
